Brazil Week

From the 15th-19th of June, Bassenthwaite held a big, brilliant, Brazil bash finding out all about the unique and diverse culture of Brazil. We looked at the story of chocolate from bean to bar, got our dancing shoes on and practised our Samba dancing, made our own Samba music, found out about the story of coffee, visiting Carvetii Coffee, in Embleton, where we roasted our own Brazilian coffee beans. We also tasted Brazilian food looked and thought about the similarities and differences between ourselves and Brazilian children by studying life in the Amazon rainforest, life in the favela’s (Brazilian slums) and life in central Rio de Janerio. The week was finished off with an amazing Rio inspired carnival, in which parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles were all invited to, to celebrate our learning with us and taste many of the Brazilian delicacies we had made.
