Narrowing the Gaps with Pupil Premium

The Governing Body and staff of Bassenthwaite Primary School and Ducklings Nursery believe that all our pupils should receive the highest quality first phase educational provision.
Pupil Premium is additional funding that is paid to schools to provide additional support to children from low income families (those eligible for free school meals), ‘Looked after’ children and children of parents in the armed forces, if they are falling behind with their education.

In making provision for disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free meals or are ‘Looked after’ will be disadvantaged.  We also recognise that not all pupils who are disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals, or are Looked After. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being disadvantaged.

Pupil Premium funding will be allocated as part of ongoing discussions in pupil progress reviews, PEP meetings/reviews and IEP reviews.  Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving Pupil premium will be in receipt of interventions at one time. The groups and individuals identified for support may change over the academic year.  Sometimes resources will be purchased or staffing put into place that will be of particular benefit to Pupil Premium pupils but that will also benefit other pupils.
